The Man Who Volunteered for Auschwitz

Polish officer Witold Pilecki deliberately got himself captured in September 1940 to infiltrate Auschwitz. Inside he organized the ZOW resistance with hundreds of inmates. His three intelligence reports described gas chambers, crematoria, and extermination to Allies who ignored him as exaggerations. He escaped in 1943, joined the Home Army, fought in Warsaw 1944. The Soviets executed him in 1948 for loyalty to the London government. His grave unknown.
