Noor Inayat Khan — The First Female SOE Wireless Operator in France

📍 Paris, France

Born in Moscow to an Indian Muslim father and a European-American mother, Noor Inayat Khan was a pacifist writer of children's stories rooted in Indian spiritual traditions before volunteering for the SOE's Special Operations Executive. She was the first woman wireless operator deployed into Nazi-occupied France, operating in Paris under the name Jeanne-Marie Renier. Despite the Gestapo hunting her relentlessly, she maintained her radio transmissions for over three months, sending vital intelligence to London while constantly on the run.
