Krystyna Skarbek aka Christine Granville

📍 Poland / France

Krystyna Skarbek, a Polish countess, was one of the first and longest-serving Special Operations Executive agents. She parachuted into Nazi-occupied Poland and crossed the Tatra mountains to reach Hungary, delivering intelligence. During an SOE mission, she walked into a German checkpoint in southern France and bluffed her way through by claiming she was a Gestapo agent on a secret mission. Her bluff worked so well the Germans escorted her out. She secured the surrender of a German garrison of 200+ men in the Loire Valley, alone, by riding her bicycle up to their position and convincing the commander Germany had already lost. After the war, she worked as a hotel elevator operator and was stabbed to death by a jealous admirer.
