Captain Jack Churchill: Mad Jack
📍 France / Burma
Brigadier John Malcolm 'Mad Jack' Churchill fought throughout WWII armed with a longbow, a Scottish broadsword, and bagpipes. He sounded the bagpipes to lead his men into battle in France. He killed an enemy with his bow and arrow (possibly the last confirmed longbow kill in combat). When captured by the Germans, he escaped the POW camp, killed two guards, and walked 150km south. He then re-joined up, fought in Burma, and was still fighting when the war ended. He famously said: 'Any officer who goes into action without his sword is improperly dressed.'
