Rafael Medina: The Spanish Righteous Among Nations
📍 Paris, France
Spanish diplomat Eduardo Propper de Callejon issued visas in occupied Paris to Jewish refugees in defiance of Franco's government and German authorities. Working as Third Secretary at the Spanish Embassy, he processed hundreds of visas for Sephardic Jews who could claim Spanish ancestry. When the Germans discovered his activities, they protested to Franco's government, and he was recalled to Spain and formally reprimanded. He was never officially recognized during his lifetime and died in obscurity in 1972. Yad Vashem recognized him as Righteous Among the Nations in 2007.
