The Ghost Soldiers of Bataan: The Escape Nobody Knows
📍 Bataan, Philippines
After the fall of Bataan, a group of 1,100 Filipino and American soldiers escaped the Death March by slipping through a gap in Japanese lines that a local fisherman had discovered. Led by Lt. Col. Ed Ramsey, they formed a guerrilla force that survived in the Bataan jungle for three years. Ramsey was known to have lived off the land, traded with local villagers, and even operated secret radio communications with MacArthur's headquarters in Australia. His guerrillas provided intelligence that was used in the eventual liberation of Manila.
